Terms & disclosures

Clear expectations for every stay.

Please read these terms before sending a bird-sitting request. They explain how stays are confirmed, what information we need from you, and how care is handled.

1. What these terms cover

These Terms & Disclosures apply to bird-sitting and bird-boarding requests made through Ottawa Bird House. They describe how requests are reviewed, the information owners must disclose, and the practical rules that apply to accepted stays.

Submitting a request does not create a confirmed reservation. A stay is confirmed only after Ottawa Bird House reviews availability, bird details, health disclosures, care requirements and any manual pricing or pickup details that apply.

2. Pricing and minimum stay

The standard starting rate is $10 CAD per calendar day with a 3-day minimum. The standard rate covers up to 2 accepted small birds that already live together and can safely share their normal setup.

Groups of 3–6 birds, unlisted species, pickup requests and other non-standard arrangements may require manual pricing or approval. Any booking-specific written quote or confirmation controls over a general estimate shown on the website.

3. Bird eligibility and household separation

Ottawa Bird House is designed primarily for budgies, cockatiels, lovebirds, finches, canaries, small parakeets and similar companion birds. Other species may be submitted for review but are not automatically accepted.

Birds from different customer households are not intentionally mixed or placed in a shared cage. Multiple birds on one request must already live together and safely share their usual setup.

4. Health disclosure is required

Owners must accurately disclose recent illness, recovery, unusual symptoms, medication or other health care, and any special diet or strict routine when submitting a request. Ottawa Bird House must also be told if a bird’s condition changes after the request is submitted and before drop-off.

A recent illness does not automatically prevent a stay, but it requires review and use of the separate-care area. Only one separate-care booking can be accommodated for overlapping dates. Ottawa Bird House may decline or cancel acceptance of a stay if the disclosed condition, care requirements or later changes cannot be accommodated safely.

The separate-care area is a practical separation measure and is not a veterinary isolation facility or a guarantee against transmission of illness.

5. Medications, routines and owner instructions

Medication, health-care instructions, special diets and strict routines must be described clearly before the stay is accepted. Ottawa Bird House may decline any care task that cannot reasonably or safely be performed in a home bird-sitting setting.

Owners are responsible for supplying sufficient medication, food and written instructions for the full stay unless a different arrangement is confirmed in writing.

6. Cage, food and personal items

Owners should bring the bird’s normal cage whenever possible, along with enough usual food and any approved treats, medication, perches or other items needed for the stay. Rental-cage requests are subject to availability and the fee shown or quoted for the booking.

Ottawa Bird House will take reasonable care of owner-supplied items but ordinary wear, chewing, soiling and damage caused by the bird can occur during normal use.

7. Emergency veterinary care

If a bird appears to require urgent veterinary attention, Ottawa Bird House will make reasonable efforts to contact the owner using the contact information supplied with the request. If the owner cannot be reached promptly, Ottawa Bird House may seek veterinary assessment or treatment that is reasonably considered necessary for the bird’s welfare.

Unless otherwise agreed in writing or required by law, the owner remains responsible for third-party veterinary, medication and emergency transportation costs incurred for their bird. Ottawa Bird House does not provide veterinary diagnosis or treatment.

8. Drop-off, pickup and transportation

Customer drop-off and pickup are the standard arrangement. Exact residential drop-off details are provided after a request is accepted. A pickup service can be requested but is limited, reviewed separately and is not included in the standard stay estimate unless specifically quoted.

Owners are responsible for ensuring the bird is transported in a secure, suitable carrier or cage. Any transportation arranged by Ottawa Bird House is subject to the booking-specific written confirmation.

9. Inherent animal-care risks

Ottawa Bird House will provide reasonable care consistent with the accepted instructions and the home-based nature of the service. Birds are living animals, and illness, stress, escape attempts, self-injury, behavioural changes or other unexpected events can occur despite reasonable precautions.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits rights, remedies or responsibilities that cannot legally be excluded or limited. These terms are not intended to waive applicable Ontario consumer-protection rights.

10. Photos and updates

A requested daily photo or detailed update is for owner communication and does not replace direct observation, veterinary assessment or emergency contact when a health concern arises. Guest photos are not used publicly for marketing unless separate permission is obtained.

11. Personal information

Ottawa Bird House collects the contact, booking, bird-care and health-disclosure information needed to assess and manage requests, communicate with owners, provide accepted care and respond to emergencies. Information may be shared with a veterinarian or service provider when reasonably necessary for the bird’s care or the requested service.

Customer information is not sold to advertisers. Private request-status links should be treated as confidential because anyone with the link may be able to view the limited booking information displayed on that page.

12. Changes to a request and these terms

Contact Ottawa Bird House as soon as possible if dates, bird health, medication, routines, transportation or other material booking details change. A material change may require the request to be reviewed again and may affect availability or price.

The terms in effect when a request is submitted are recorded with that request. If these terms materially change, the updated terms will apply to future requests and the last-updated date on this page will change.
